5.2. Power distribution

It is very important, specially for large loads, to take into account the current to be delivered by the power supply and to appropriately size the power supply wires. A power cable, when inappropriately sized, will produce a voltage drop on it, which will be deducted from the voltage available at the load and will result in a poorer load regulation. Also, the voltage drop, as well as the current flowing through the power cables, will cause the cables to get hot, and, consequently, a power loss on the cables, thereby reducing the system’s performance. On the other hand, it is important to have firm contacts on the power supply and load terminals, specially for large currents.
