5.6. Charging batteries

Battery charging using a stabilized power supply requires the help of a series diode that protects the battery from a power failure, thus avoiding the discharge of the battery. Most batteries require charging at constant current or power, where the former is more appropriate to increase the battery’s service life. This operation mode is achieved using constant-current power supplies. As a guideline, an output of 13.6 V is required to load 12 V batteries and an output of 27.2 V is required to load 24 V batteries. These voltages can be achieved using standard 12 V and 24 power supplies with enough adjustment range.
