2.5. Push-pull

It is also called antiparallel converter. This circuit (fig. 10) uses two transistors which are alternately on, with a duty cycle from 0 to 50% each. The primary is also doubled, with a winding connected to each transistor. The transformer voltage has a symmetric waveform and is rectified in a full-wave in the secondary, where there is a coil L, which, together with the two diodes, behaves as in the forward converter, but at a frequency which is as much as double the primary’s frequency. D1 and D2 alternate their function as a forward diode and freewheeling diode.
